PC-Culture in The 21st Century
More than any other time in the history of culture, we are at a point where subculture is influencing the artistic discourse and agenda in society in the 21st century. After hundreds of years in which the fringes of society existed without a voice and without recognition of their rights, where called “freaks”, “weirdos”, and “outcasts”, today they exist in the light and their voices are heard thanks to artists who have taken upon themselves to direct the spotlights, comment and illuminate marginal culture, and to be the bearers of the public PC discourse.
Today, in the 21st century, the most prominent voices in marginal culture are those of the LGBTIQA+ community, and more so in recent years of the trans community. Transparent communities that have been persecuted for the longest time, lived and conducted themselves without a proper voice or representation, until art gave them a voice and attribution, and changed the discourse completely, caused waves of awareness and created ongoing processes of changes in society.
